Instructions
Note: This project requires a kiln—visit www.ilovetocreate.com/pyop to find a Paint Your Own Pottery studio near you. Refer to photos for color and design placement.
- Wipe the bisque horse with a damp potter's sponge to remove any dust. Use the pencil to lightly sketch diagonal stripes 1/4” apart across the entire horse (Fig. 1).
- Pour a puddle of Really Red onto the foil. Use the #4 liner to paint alternating stripes, starting with the stripe after the nose and working down the body. Let dry. Apply two more coats, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next (Fig. 2).
- Pour a puddle of Grass Green Underglaze onto the foil. Use the #1 liner to apply a thin stripe down the center of each white section between the red stripes (Fig. 3). Let dry, then apply a second coat.
- Use the #1 liner with Cobalt Jet Black Underglaze to paint the eyes. Thin the Cobalt Jet Black slightly with water, then add detail to the mouth and nostrils of the horse. Dip the handle of the #1 liner into the White Underglaze and add a highlight dot to each eye. Let dry completely.
- Dampen the sponge, then lightly sponge one coat of Clear Glaze onto the entire horse, except for the bottom of the hooves (Fig. 4). Let dry completely. Use the glaze brush to apply a second smoother coat of Clear Glaze, being careful not to overbrush the glaze. Use a damp sponge to carefully wipe off any glaze that may have gotten onto the bottom of the hooves.
- Dryfoot the piece and fire to shelf cone 06.
